Polopos is a town in Granada with just 50 inhabitants. However, the Dutch reality show El pueblo español: Polopos (Het Spaanse Dorp: Polopos) has managed to place it on the map of the new favorite destinations of the Dutch. How did the miracle happen? The mission of the RTL4 television contest was for five couples to move there for six months to build a new life and revitalize “empty Spain”. The broadcast of the program has been so successful that it has caused a true tourism fever in the town of Granada.
The winners of the contest are Nando and Thysa, and have become honorary citizens of Polopos and new residents of the town. The young couple has decided to stay to live there and realize their dream: build a residence for creators.
The objective of the winners of the Dutch program is to offer artists a calm and peaceful place where they can be inspired. At the same time, they want to build an ideal place for cultural exchange between people from all over the world. Both are in love with the Alpujarra area of Granada. But not only the winners are already "poloperos". The other four participating couples have also bought houses in the town and are staying to live there.
For them it is an opportunity to start a new life and a way to help the people, whose hospitality, affection and good humor have won them over. In fact, it was the townspeople who voted for the most integrated couple determined to turn Polopos into an attractive destination. The reward of the contest has been a prize of 20,000 euros to invest in your home or business. Polopos has become so fashionable among the Dutch, after the program is broadcast, that hundreds of them travel to see live the town that has stolen their hearts.
They walk the streets, which a few months ago were almost uninhabited, with admiration, enjoying the charm of the place, the pure air of the mountains, the typical gastronomy of the area and they dream of settling in this warm and quiet corner of the world.
